STEP BACK IN TIME IN BATH
Friday 1st December 2006
The Romans may have long since left, but the beautiful spa town of Bath is still attracting plenty of visitors lured by its beautiful architecture and many attractions.
The most famous of these has to be the Roman Baths in the town centre. Despite the crowds of tourists, you can easily imagine yourself transported back 2000 years, luxuriating in the different pools.
If this makes you crave a similar but bang-up-to-date experience (without the algae!), head to the newly opened Thermae Bath Spa, again right in the centre of town, and prepare to chill out with a myriad of beauty treatments or at the attractive roof-top pool.
Another notable period in Bath's history was the Regency era, when Jane Austen stayed and observed polite society's habits – giving her plenty of material for her books. At that time, Bath was the place for wealthy families to enjoy the 'season' and then return home to their country estates for the summer.
