DEVON & DORSET ON A BUDGET
Friday 1st December 2006
Why go there? Scenery doesn't come much better than this. Not surprisingly, Devon and Dorset have some of the most popular holiday spots in the UK. Cream teas in timeless villages, sheep-filled fields, winding country lanes and the grassy clifftops of the south-west coastline.
The stretch around Lyme Regis has been designated a World Heritage Sit for its richness in fossils, and the kids will love playing at archaeology, chipping away at the cliff in the hope of discovering a dinosaur bone! The last time I was in Lyme Regis there was a dolphin frolicking in the bay – magical stuff. Elsewhere there are numerous visitor attractions.
Where to stay For something a bit different, take the family on a four-day Devon & Dorset Ramble across inland hills and along the coastal path. Travel light, with just a picnic, as your luggage is taken on ahead by road to the next inviting hotel or guesthouse en route.
How much? From £298 per person sharing, including four nights B&B with three dinners and three picnics, plus luggage transfers, maps and walking notes. Call Inntravel Shortbreaks, 01653 617906; or visit Inntravel
